CREATIVE
EXPRESSIONS for
Movement & Creative Writing “Original Audio Soundscapes
to Inspire Creativity”
Creative Expressions
for Movement and Creative Writing
CD was developed to spark the imagination and stimulate a child’s
own thoughts, feelings, associations and movements by exposing
him/her to a variety of organized sounds without words. Individual
soundscape tracks reflect different moods or colours that may
bring a story to mind, a setting or still picture, or words
that describe a general or specific feeling. It may be different
for each child. By sharing our ideas, we learn to understand
and respect each other’s opinions, strengthen connections
with music and discover more about this language of communication.
The 58 audio tracks vary in length from 20
seconds to over a minute each. They are not in any specific
order and are not titled to leave it free to the listener’s
imagination.
Some tracks are played many times at different tempos (speeds)
to demonstrate how the mood and intent changes when faster or
slower.
I recommend everyone listening to only one track at
a time with their eyes closed. That way, they can focus better
not have to “change channels” as their ears jump
from one track to the next. People might just sit quietly and
afterwards, talk about
• what they imagined,
• how it made them feel,
• what colour comes to mind,
• the object or activity they were reminded of.
You might want to play it again to help stimulate more
ideas. Depending on the age of the listeners, some children
might like to
• hear it again and move to it,
• talk about it - tell a story,
• act out a scene individually,
• draw a picture of what it reminds them of,
• add sound effects to the music.
Older children may want to collaborate with a partner or group
to create
• a tableau,
• group movement art,
• puppets/dolls to act out the story,
• a video or movie preview to go with the music,
• a painted mural,
• a newspaper article or play based on the music,
• a scene or build props.
